Yes!! It’s almost here now. THE book (only in Dutch, sorry) on how to market to women. ‘Mag het ietsje minder roze?’ (roughly translated: Cut the pink, please) is a book that I’ve worked on with pleasure in the past year, I interviewed many interesting people and written all of the cases in the book. Although the book is focussed on the Dutch market, many of the principles of how to market to women are applicable worldwide. So if you have any questions on how to market to women in Asia? Drop me a line.

The book will be available in (Dutch) bookstores from the 10th of October onwards.

We desperately need a new collection on the ONI website. The collection is here, all I need to do is take the photos, write some copy and upload. It’s as simple as can be.

The publisher of our book (sorry it will be in Dutch) has send us a new timeline to work with. Publication date is set to be: August 2011. I will keep you posted.

Speaking of the book, there’s still writing that needs to be done…

The invoices for the market research project are send out, that’s a relieve.

THE annual event for the Dutch Society in Hong Kong will be on the 7th of May. New flyers, invitation cards and admission cards need to be designed and printed. I’ve got an idea, but will need to sit down behind the computer to actually do it as well.

China, Hong Kong and Macau have joined forces to build a bridge and tunnel that will connect all three economic regions. The bridge will improve the infrastructure and open up new opportunities for each of the regions involved. It also happens to threaten the Pink Dolphin population.

Tak Chong Sum Kee on Western Street in Sai Ying Pun, Central is the last shop in Hong Kong that actually makes bamboo steamers by hand. Mr Raymond Lam is running his family business with a passion. The age old craft was brought to Hong Kong in the fifties by Mr Lam’s father. Nowadays the bulk of production is done on the mainland, but up to today Mr Lam still makes bamboo steamers by special order for his Hong Kong clients.

The Peninsula Hotel Hong Kong recently celebrated its 80th anniversary. On December 11th in 1928 the hotel opened its doors to the first of many international guests. The hotel is currently owned by the Peninsula Hotel Group, which manages several hotels across China and in the USA and has ambitions to open a Peninsula Hotel in Paris.

The Hong Kong Peninsula Hotel is as much a part of Hong Kong as the Dai Pai Dongs, the milk tea and the famous Peak and its tram are. Over the years it remains the only building to be a witness to Hong Kong’s history. In 1941 the Britisch colononial powers surrendered the hotel to Japanese troops. The Japanse used the Grand Dame, as the hotel is nicknamed, as their base during the second World War. The hotel has accompanied the city through good and bad times; during SARS the hotel was occupied by only nine guests.

In light of the 80th anniversary, the Peninsula donated 3 million HKD to three beneficiaries, which all provide community services in Hong Kong; Make a Wish Hong Kong (grants the wishes of children with life-treathening illnesses), Mary Rose School (schooling for children with mental disabilities) and St James Settlement Funeral Navigation Service (assists elderly with funeral preparations).

What else does the Peninsula Hotel hold for the local community? Today it is a wellknown hotel that hosts affluent travellers from all over the world, but what kind of values does it represent to Hong Kong people? What comes to mind when they think of the hotel?
